Relatives Support

The person I care for may need to go into residential care. How can the Carers Support Service help me?

There are three main ways:

  • We can give you information about how to go about choosing residential care, care standards and inspections, what to look for when choosing a Home, where to go for help with financial and legal questions, the emotional side of things like guilt, how to help your cared for person settle in, communicating with the Home, and raising points of concern with the Home.

  • We have two part time workers, one of whom can accompany you when you are choosing a Home for your relative, perhaps prompting you to ask the right questions to make sure you make the best choice for your and your relative. The decision to select a particular Home must be yours of course, we cannot give any advice on this point. IWe must also point out that we are unable to recommend any Home over another.

  • We maintain an extensive library of relevant information which carers are welcome to borrow, free of charge.

I am looking for bookable respite, where the person I care for can have a short stay in a residential care or nursing care home.  How can the Carers Support Service help me?

  • We maintain a database of local residential care and nursing care homes that are happy to accept people for a short stay - please contact us for details of vacancies.

The person I care for self-funds their own home care.  Can I get some help in putting a package of home care together to meet their needs?

  • Yes, one of our Relative Support workers can work with you to help you do this.  Just contact us.
